CHC Success Story:
Hope is seeing light at the end of a very long tunnel.
Recipient: Ms. T
Hardship: Job Loss, Medical Leave, Death of Spouse
CHC assistance: $4281
Ms. T's challenges began in October 2019, when she and her husband suffered concurrent job loss. Ms. T quickly secured part-time work at a convenience store to make ends meet, but her husband remained unemployed.
Just around the corner, in the spring of 2020, Ms. T underwent a total hip replacement, which required a few months of medical leave to heal. Around the time she was recovering - her husband started getting sick.
Ms. T healed and got right back to working at the store. Yet a few short months after her return, tragedy struck when her husband was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with Bladder Cancer. Without other care options, Ms. T became a full-time caregiver nearly overnight – unable to go back to work until after her husband's death in early September 2021.
From late 2019 through 2021, Ms. T suffered a challenging string of hardships that resulted in 4 months of missed mortgage payments.
Despite this overwhelming adversity – she persisted – quickly securing a new job, determined to find solutions to resolve deficits and get back on track. Ms. T adheres to an impressive, stringent budget and has sold some of her husband's valued possessions to pay off debt and create a bigger financial cushion. She is disciplined with her finances and has proven to meet her mortgage obligation moving forward.
Ms. T made great strides toward financial security – but she still struggled to catch up on the missed payments. With the forbearance due date fast approaching, the CHC stepped in to help – covering those four months of missed payments, providing Ms. T the boost she needed to overcome this remaining hurdle.
Ms. T's perseverance, paired with some financial assistance from the CHC, ended a string of misfortunes and proved there is light at the end of every tunnel (some just happen to be a little longer than others).
